New Song

Sun November 6, 2011

Jaz is a prolific song writer and has enough for an album, bless her little 10-yr old heart.  Dave helped her record her first song earlier this year and today they got technical again and worked all afternoon recording another.  Hopefully I can share with you soon! x

Bubby

Wed November 2, 2011

‘Twas our wedding anniversary yesterday and when we woke, Dave handed me a card (with the sweetest words – he’s a good egg) and a small box that had keys inside.  Then he told me to look under the bed.  Ooooh, so exciting.  There was a huge silver case which I unlocked and there was a Bronica ETRSi medium format film camera with a couple of lenses and rolls of film.  I was so shocked and happy I cried.  I’ve already shot a roll and now the impatience has kicked in while I wait for it to be processed.  I look forward to sharing my learning adventures in the ways of medium format film photography.  A whole new ball game for me!

And… some bubby love x

Family Photos

Sat October 29, 2011

I am tapping away here very early on a rainy Saturday morning.  My trip to Ballarat for an engagement session as been post-poned due to the wild weather, so me and my loves have found ourselves with a free Saturday together we weren’t expecting.  We are all still in pj’s.  Hot chocolates and coffees and toast and eggs have been had.  The kids are on to game number 4 and I am blogging.  Later we are getting the sewing machine out and making bookmarks for presents (to family reading this, you can act surprised if they happen to be included in your Xmas gift!).

I haven’t really sewn anything before.  I bought a sewing machine when I became a mother, thinking idealistically that motherhood would involve much making of costumes (despite my awkward use of pins and needles).  I made a few baby blankets — well… cut squares of material and hemmed the edges.  And then the sewing machine was packed safely away… to be resurrected today, on this rainy quiet Saturday, to teach my darlings to sew ;)

And now, a beautiful family from a recent Sydney session.  The next Sydney sessions will be in early 2012, so please drop me a line to me@angiebaxter.com.au if you are interested. x

A Wedding

Thu October 20, 2011

I have a few images that I wanted to share from this beautiful wedding I photographed a few weeks ago.  Meet the very happy… Jane and Ian.

I was deeply moved by the incredible relationships Jane and Ian have with their family and friends.  The love that filled their space on their wedding day was bountiful and a testament to who they are.

Ian’s daughters surprised them during the ceremony with a song.  They are not professional singers – but could be!  It was one of the highlights of the day and I love Ian’s reaction.

There were two in the bed…

Tue October 11, 2011

Children have always found their way into our bed during the night.  Jazzy stopped coming in around the time Will started.  And then once Imi began her midnight visits, Will stayed put in his own bed.  Two nights out of three we will find Imogen between us, and we sometimes wonder how on earth she got in there without us realising.

This morning the face that greeted me was this one.  It has been so long since Will came into our bed that I couldn’t resist a quick snap.  He looked so cosy and warm and snuggly.  It was fortuitous that my camera was on the bedside table – I don’t usually sleep with it!

I am inspired for room decoration at the moment and am working on a reading corner (currently known as the washing dumping ground) and Will’s bedroom.  To get the ball rolling I’ve had some New York prints made.

This shot has been printed on fine art paper – 30×20″.  It looks truly incredible and I can’t wait to have it framed and hanging.  The art paper has given each building a 3D effect.

And this photo I had printed as a poster that is now hanging above Will’s bed. x

During a recent session, this little love made a quick backstage costume change and gave an impromptu dance concert on her parent’s bed. Love! x

Hello Possums!

Tue September 27, 2011

Jazzy’s class has been studying Australia, and to finish the term they needed to research a famous Australian and then one evening last week — dress up as the famous Australian and present their information.

Here is our little love, Dame Edna Everage — too cute :)

The next Love Your Camera II – Online Photography Retreat starts this Monday!

Review Post

Tue September 20, 2011

Rachel and I met recently, literally on the street outside my house :)  Will and Gemma quickly became friends, bonding over magic tricks and home-made perfume concoctions.  And Rachel and I have talked photography, motherhood and life.  I know she has put a lot of passion and energy into her new eBook Click, and I was excited when she asked me to review it.

Click is an eBook about photographing children.  It is not a technical manual nor a step-by-step portrait basics.  This easy-to-read guide is about creating more than smiley-faced portraits.  It is a book on recording children as they really are and visually telling genuine stories.  Rachel writes in an honest biographical style and shares lots of fantastic photos on every page.  I highly recommend Click for any Love Your Camera attendees — professional and enthusiast photographers alike.

Will leave you with a shot of my Jazzy at a piano recital a few weeks ago.  She played with four other children in front of a small group.  Confident but shy, this shot was taken just before she played. x
